Start Timer (From Active Case)

When the timer for the active case is deleted, or when accessing a case where the timer is canceled, the Timer Summary Pane will display the remaining timers with the option to start a new timer for the active case.

  1. Click either button to display the Start Timer window.

NOTE: The Timer Summary Pane is only visible when at least one open case has/had a timer.

  2. Enter the following details, then click the Start button to initiate the timer for this case.

  • Case – The active case is displayed by default. This field cannot be changed. Refer to the New Timer (From Anywhere in Neos) article for more details.

  • Description – Enter details about what you will be working on in the case. This field is optional and can be changed any time before the time entry is complete. The Description field will automatically populate with the description from the selected Task Code. Up to 5,000 characters can be entered.

  • Task Code – Select the appropriate task related to the time you are spending in the case. The Task dropdown contains both the Task and UTBMS Code as defined in the Tasks Mini Directory. This field is optional and can be changed any time before the time entry is complete.

  • Activity Code – Select the appropriate code to further describe the task being performed on the case. Activities are defined in the Activity Codes Mini Directory and are denoted with an "A" before the number, e.g., "A102 Research". A list of standard Activity Codes by the American Bar Association can be found here. Activity Code is an optional field.

3. When the Start button is clicked, the timer will initiate on the top pane and on the active tab. The running time will display in the top navigation with action options. The tab for the open case tracks the hours and minutes. Refer to Accessing the Automatic Timekeeper for more details.
