All financial transactions relating to a case are entered on the Value Tab in the Case Folder. The Value Tab details the item, any reductions or payments made, and the status of payments, adjustments, and liens. Value Notes can be added to an item to further describe the Value entry or document conversations with providers. Select the Value Tab in the desired Case Folder for which you would like to enter Value information.
To access the Value Tab, navigate to a Case Folder and select the Value Tab from the list of tabs on the left.
NOTE: You must have at least Enabled permissions to the Value Tab. You also must have at least Enabled permissions to view the Invoices Tab within the Value Tab.
Value Tab List View
The Value tab shows items that have been entered for the selected Party in the current Case.
Invoices can be created for Value items that are marked as fees or costs. Refer to Creating Invoices for more information.
The Value Tab also contains a Funds Tab and a Settlement Tab.
Value entries are displayed in a list view, showing each Value item for the Case sorted by Date Created. All columns showing money are now right-aligned.
The Grouped and Settlement views have been removed from the Value Tab. The Grouped View can be recreated in Advanced Search. The Settlement View can be recreated using the desired Settlement Memo.
Value items can be printed from the Value Tab of a Case. Refer to Printing Value Tab Items for more details.
Desired columns can be inserted/removed from the list using the kebab (three-dot) menu to the right of each column title. With this new grid format, columns can also be rearranged by dragging and dropping, resized, and sorted by selecting the column header. Sorting and column changes will persist for the Value Tab of all cases accessed by the user.
Default Value Tab columns include Code, Party, Provider, Memo, Amount, Due, and Invoiced (formally "Billed"). Additional columns include Time Spent, Start Date, Start Time, Stop Time, Bill To, Service From, Service To, Reduction, Settlement Note, Value Category, UTBMS expense, Reference 1, Reference 2, Lien, Staff Created, Staff Modified, Date Created, and Date Modified (dates displays as the logged in user's time zone).
NOTE: The Status column is always visible, whether or not your firm has the "Require Time/Value Approval" Invoicing setting turned on in Firm Preferences.
Staff who have the Time and Value Approval Special Permission will also see options for Approve and Deny.
Invoiced is a column on the Value Tab. This column indicates if a Value item has a pending invoice (in draft and editable), a completed invoice (Value item is locked), is not invoiced, or is not applicable (cannot be billed due to Value Code).
When a Value item is marked as a Credit or if there is a negative debit, the currency columns such as Due and Total will display as a negative in black, e.g., -$40.00. An icon
will display in the Lien column when the Lien check box has been selected for a Value item.
Click the Party dropdown to change the default Party and display all Value items associated with the selected Party. New Value items will default to the Party selected on the Value Tab list view.
Click the More dropdown to access additional filter options:
Provider – Use the Contact search field to filter Value entries by selected Provider.
Type – Filter Value entries by All, only Fees, or only Costs.
Value Code – Filter Value entries by one or more Value Codes.
Set filtering only persists for the user within the current case and session.
Single-item actions, such as Delete, Add Payment, and Add Adjustment have been moved to the kebab menu to the right of each checkbox.
NOTE: "Total Payments" and "Total Adjustments" are criteria and columns in Advanced Search > Value.
Preview Value Items
Select a Value item to display a preview in the right pane.
NOTE: The pencil icon to edit and the add icon to create will be hidden from the Transaction Details section if the Value entry is locked for editing and you do not have the Modify Locked Value Entries Special Permission. Additionally, the trash can icon will be disabled.
The Transaction Details and Notes section have updated grid layouts, consistent with similar grids in Neos.
Double-click a Value item in the list view to bypass the preview and display the detail view of a Value item.
Refer to Adding a Value Item and Value Subtotals for additional details.
Open in Advanced Search
The Grouped view can be easily accessed by clicking the three dot menu > Open in Advanced Search option from inside the Value Tab of a Case. When selected, an Advanced Search tab will immediately display with the query set to "Value" and the criteria equal to the active case number. The search will automatically trigger, showing all Value entries grouped by Value Code (criteria will be collapsed by default). Expanding a Value Code to show each assigned Value entry will also display the following columns: Value Code Title, Service From Date, Service To Date, Value Provider Name, Memo, Total Amount, Reduction, Due, Total Payments, and Total Adjustments.
Click here to see this change in real-time.
Refer to Advanced Search Filter Options for details on using this as a template for additional customization that can be saved and easily accessed in your list of saved searches.
Download Settlement Memo
Reports relating to the Value Tab, such as Case Facts and Settlement Memos, can be accessed directly from the Value Tab by clicking the Download Settlement memo button.
Click the three dots to the right of a report to download as a PDF or DOCX, or to view the report. A PDF or Word document will be created and displayed at the bottom of your browser window. You can also create a query by clicking the Advanced Search button.
NOTE: When downloading Settlement Memos from a Case, Neos uses pre-defined filters and values from each report. It is critical that your firm customize these defaults in Reports > Settlement Memo for each intended report prior to downloading from the Value Tab.
If filters and default values are not configured properly, the selected Settlement Memo report may not display any results. For unique, one-off Settlement Memos, you can change filters by accessing from Reports or create a new Settlement Memo report to include unique filters.
