Configure Email Parser Trigger

One of the available triggers with Zapier is Email Parser. If your firm obtains leads in the same format by email (e.g., form information sent by a third-party), an email parser can be created. Click here for more information from Zapier on setting up your Email Parser account. The Email Parser trigger can be used on a variety of Zap actions.

To configure an email parser:

  1. To create a new parser mailbox, click https://zapier.com/features/parser

  2. Click Login and then Log in with your Zapier account.

  3. On the Allow Parser to access your Zapier account screen, confirm your Zapier account email is correct and click the Allow button.

  4. Select the Create Mailbox button.

NOTE: The email address is auto-generated and will be unique each time you create a new email parser account.

  5. Using one of your email templates with data, send it to the address shown on the screen above. Make sure to remove any content that you do not wish to parse (e.g., email signature, date and time of original email, etc.).

  6. Once the email has been sent, you can begin to specify the content that should be extracted.

  • Address – The auto-generated Zapier email address will display. This can be changed, but should be a random combination of numbers and letters, making it difficult for someone to guess.

  • Initial Template – Your sent example will display. Highlight ONLY the data that should be extracted. For example, with "First Name: George", only "George" should be selected. A window will display prompting you to title the entry, e.g.,"First Name". Click the Save button to show that field as a tag, e.g., "{{firstname}}". Continue to highlight the remaining fields that you wish to have extracted. When highlighting the email, do not highlight "<mailto:>".

TIP: After data is highlighted, the cursor is automatically placed into the popup text field, allowing you to type and hit the enter key.

  • Body source Choose how your data should be extracted (best available, plain text, or HTML). This setting can be kept as the default to use the best body content available.

  • Parser Engine – If you are having issues with emails being parsed correctly, you can change this setting, otherwise, it is recommended to leave it as the default.

7. Click the Save Address and Template button to continue.

NOTE: You can always return to the setup screen above by clicking the gear icon for the desired Mailbox.

Your configured Email Parser can now be used in your new and existing Zaps as the Trigger.

NOTE: With the New Zap window still open, you can click the Refresh results button in the Mailbox field.

8. Select the Zapier mailbox you just configured and click the Continue button.

9. Click Test trigger to test the email parser. Zapier will display the last email sent to the parser account. Ensure that the listed email is valid.

10. Open the located email to review the parsed data and click Continue with selected record.

11. Click to see the parsed output.

12. Click "Continue with selected record" to configure the Action for your Zap.
