Case Folder Header

An overview of the Case Header bar, including how the Case Name displays, which fields appear by default, collapsing and expanding the header, and viewing or editing the Case Budget.

The Case Header bar contains essential information from the Party and Case tabs that can be easily referenced while on any tab. The Case Header can be customized in the Case Type > General Tab.

NOTE: You must have Modify permissions to Directories > Case Type to make changes to the Case Header. To make changes to field data, you must have Modify permissions to the corresponding tab. To make changes to the Case Budget, you must have Modify permissions to Case > Budget.

TIP: Information from the Case Header can be highlighted and copied using Ctrl + C, then pasted using Ctrl + V.

How the Case Name Displays

Data in the Case Name field on the Case Tab will display as bolded text in the Case Header, e.g., "Summers, R.N., Ms. Jessica".

Default to the First Party Name

If the Case Name field is cleared, Neos will default it to show the First Party Name [Last, Suffix, Prefix First Name Middle Initial] from the Party Tab.

Middle Name and Initial Rules

NOTE: If the First Party Name contains only a middle initial, e.g., "M" for Marie, their middle initial is included in the Case Header. Any characters added after the middle initial (such as a dash, comma, or period) will prevent the initial from being included in the Case Header.

If the First Party Name contains their full middle name, it will NOT be added to the Case Header.

Header Fields

Default and Customizable Fields

Below the Case Name/First Party Name, the default view for the Case Header of all new and existing Case Types includes Case #, Case Type, Class, Assigned, LIM Date, DOI, and Opened. When customizing the Header Display by Case Type, your firm may decide to add or remove fields based on the desired view. Case #, Case Type, and LIM Date are required. Static fields on the Case Header contain a colon to make data easier to view.

Collapsing and Expanding the Header

The Case Header is collapsible using the up caret. When collapsed, only fields that can fit on one row (while your browser is maximized) will be displayed. Neos will store your settings for future cases (e.g., if the current case is collapsed and you open a different case, the Case Header of that case will also be collapsed). Click the down caret to fully expand the Case Header. Up and down carets will only display when the Case Header fields wrap to more than one line. If all fields fit on a single line, the Case Header cannot be collapsed or expanded.

Case Folder Tab Display

Up to 40 characters from the Case Name field will display on the Case Folder tab, followed by an ellipsis. When hovering on the tab, the full Case Name will display. This change allows multiple tabs to remain in view.

NOTE: To see the Case # on hover, add it manually to the Case Name field.

Modifying Header Data

Data in the fields on the Case Header can be modified in the location where those fields exist (e.g., Case Tab) if the user has the proper Modify permissions.

Case Number

The Case # is auto-generated by Neos.

Lim Date

The LIM Date is controlled by the Case Checklist Tab items marked as "LIM". Leap years are automatically counted when calculating the LIM Date. When Auxiliary Checklist titles have been added to the Case Checklist Tab, each title will display next to the Litigation titles label. Refer to Modifying Case Checklist Items for a breakdown of how to change the LIM Date in the Case Header (Modify LIM Item section).

Case Type

The assigned Case Type can be changed, if permissions exist, from the Case Actions (three dots) menu on the Case Header.

Party Picture

Navigate to the Party tab detail view to change the picture associated with the first Party. Click the picture to browse for image files. Click the X icon to expand the picture. Click the trash can icon to remove the picture.

Adding a Special Note

Click the Quick Add menu and select Special Note to insert Case Notes that can be visible while viewing any tab within the Case.

Case Budget

When the Case Budget is enabled for a Case Type and the option to display in the Case Header is checked, the Case Budget will display in the Case Header showing the total amount spent and a warning threshold, when applicable. With Modify permissions to Case > Case Budget, staff can edit the Case Budget on the case level and even disable the Case Budget, if warranted. The Case Budget is also visible on the Value Tab > Funds view.

Budget Status Colors

The Case Budget widget shows the amount spent with a warning threshold, which will influence the color shown on the budget tracker.

  • BlueThe case is currently within the Budget Limit

  • Orange – The case is at or over the Warning Threshold (based on percent of the Budget Limit)

  • Red – The case is over the Budget Limit

Editing the Case Budget

With Modify permissions to Case > Case Budget, the pencil icon will display on the Case Header. On the Set Case Budget window, the following changes can be made (which are similar to the Case Type > General Tab > Case Budget settings).

Disabling and Re-enabling the Case Budget

When the Enable checkbox is unselected and the window is saved, the Case Budget widget will be removed from the Case Header and from the Funds view. The fields extend to the full length of the header before wrapping to the next line.

To add the Case Budget widget back into the Case Header and the full Case Budget tracker back into the Funds view, navigate to the Value Tab > Funds view and select the Enable button.
