Opening Case Documents

Files saved on the Case Documents Tab can be automatically opened in your browser or desktop, as specified in the Staff Profiles > Advanced Tab when the document name is clicked. However, there may be times when you want to choose the method for opening particular documents without having to change your Staff Profile settings.

NOTE: You must have at least Enabled permissions to Case > Documents Tab to open documents.

The Documents Tab list view includes an Open option on the down arrow menu of a saved document in Neos. Regardless of your Staff Profile > Advanced Tab settings, click the down arrow menu next to the Details button of a desired document and hover over the Open option. For Microsoft Office files (Word and Excel), you will see options to Open In Browser and Open In Desktop App.

Open In Browser

When Open In Browser is clicked, the document will open within your firm's SharePoint in a new tab of your browser. For Office documents opened in your browser, the header/footer may not be immediately visible but it is still on the document and can be accessed using the View ribbon and selecting the Header & Footer button.

NOTE: Other document types (e.g., .txt, .pdf, .rtf) will only show the Open In Browser option.

Clicking the file name of a PDF can automatically open in your desktop PDF application when configured using a setting in your browser. In Chrome, for example, navigate to the kebab (three dots) menu > Settings > Privacy and security > Additional content settings > PDF documents > and select Download PDFs.

Ensure that your desired PDF application is set as the default application for .pdf file types (via Windows: Settings > Apps & features > Choose default apps by file type > scroll to .pdf and click the + icon to choose a default app, e.g., Adobe Acrobat.

NOTE: When the above settings are configured to automatically open PDFs in your default application, the file will also be in your Downloads folder.

Open In Desktop App

When Open In Desktop App is clicked, Neos will prompt you to open the file in the MS Office desktop app (Word or Excel). Refer to the Advanced Tab for additional details.

NOTE: When opening a document from Neos using Word Desktop, the following error may display if your OneDrive is not synced with your SharePoint account. This can be corrected by ensuring that your OneDrive on your local machine is synced with the email associated with your SharePoint (this should be the email address connected to your Neos Staff Profile). If your OneDrive is not connected, you may see a pop-up in your systems tray (bottom right near time/date) or your File Explorer window.

For Office documents opened on your desktop, if the header/footer is not visible by default, navigate to Insert > Header > Edit Header.
